What is Solar Power?
Solar power is generated when sunlight is converted into electricity. This process occurs by one of two methods. The first method is called Photovoltaics (PV). Photovoltaics converts light into electric current using the photoelectric effect. The second method is called Concentrated Solar Power (CSP). This method makes use of mirrors or lenses to focus the suns energy into a small beam. In essence a solar energy system is about harnessing the sun’s immense natural power source to either convert sunlight to electricity using silicon cells or its thermal energy for direct water heating both with the objective of not only saving money but of course the environment. This electrical energy can be used directly and immediately to power equipment or recharge batteries. Because Solar Thermal and Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems use a renewable source of energy - the sun - both reduce carbon emissions and contribute to a reduction in heating, hot water and electricity bills.
What types of Solar Panels are there?
Solar Photovoltaics (PV)
This type of solar panel system converts sunlight directly into electricity. This type of solar panel is becoming increasing popular and in the UK. You can have solar PV cells, on residential buildings, upto the maximum output of 4 kilowatts per hour. These systems work from during daylight hours. Although there is a very slight dip in performance on cloudy and rainy days, the PV systems should still produce more than enough electricity for you to see your fuel bill reduced by around 50% per year. For more information complete our Contact Form and we will call you back.
Solar Thermal
This type of solar panel system harnesses the suns energy to create heat. This type of system has been popular for many years within the leisure industry where a steady stream of hot water is required throughout the day. These too are becoming increasingly popular on UK residential buildings as people look to produce hot water for their baths, washing machines & showers. Unlike the Solar PV system, Solar Thermal panels do not work too well if the sun is not shining. However, during the summer months these panels should produce enough hot water for your families needs. For more information or complete our Contact Form and we will call you back.
Is solar power confusing?
Although the first solar panel was invented in 1880, solar power hasn't really been big in the UK residential market for all that long. In April last year, the government annouced plans to back the Feed in Tariffs (FiTs) which has seen an explosion in Cheap Solar Panels and cheap solar panel installations over the last 12 months. Because this industry is so new to most people it has made the solar energy market appear to be a very confusing and complicated place. The simple truth however is that it isn't really that complicated at all. We will try our best to offer expert advice in everything you need to know regarding solar panels and solar panel installations. If you have any further questions, please feel free to Contact Us and one of our highly trained, industry professionals will call you back as soon as possible. What is the Feed in Tariffs (FiTs) scheme?
In April 2010, the government announced plans that it was backing a scheme known as the Feed in Tariffs (FiTs). This scheme rewards those who choose to generate all, or part, of their energy from renewable sources. The FiTs is available to both commercial and residential customers. The scheme pays residential customers an annual income and has been backed by the government for the next 25 years guaranteed. On average the FiTs pays out between £900 & £1200 per annum. These figures are based on the 3 & 4 kilowatt solar photovoltaic panel installation. If you can afford to spend over £8000 for Solar Panels then the Feed in Tariffs scheme is definately the most lucrative scheme to join. Many investors are jumping on the chance to install Free Solar Panels because they can see what a fantastic investment opportunity solar panels are.
